Paris, April 05: The bodies of some of the victims have been found in the wreckage of the Air France plane that crashed over the Atlantic in 2009, killing all 228 passengers onboard.
France’s Environment Minister Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet said on Monday that searchers found “more than just traces” of human remains and that “identification is possible.”
Officials say the plane’s black box flight recorders have not yet been found and it is unclear whether they are still attached to the fuselage.
The French agency responsible for aviation accidents known as BEA says the cause of the crash cannot be determined unless the black boxes are found.
Air France has made compensation payments to the relatives of the passengers and crew through its insurers.
The Air France flight 447 was en-route from the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro to Paris in June 2009 when it crashed and fell into the Atlantic Ocean after running into an intense high-altitude thunderstorm.
