Hyderabad, April 02: Air marshal P.R. Sharma took over as the new commandant of the Air Force Academy, Dundigal, near here, at an impressive ceremony on Friday.
He took charge from Air Vice Marshal Amit Aneja. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff at headquarters, New Delhi. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Service Staff College, Wellington and Royal College of Defence Studies, London, he was commissioned in the IAF on February 15, 1975, in the fighter stream.
A qualified flying instructor and a test pilot, he has over 3,000 hours of flying experience in most types of fighters, trainers and transport aircraft. He held numerous staff appointments at the Air Headquarters and Strategic Forces Command and has the unique distinction of being the team leader of the Su-30 aircraft project team to Moscow. He was also the Air Officer Commanding of a premier fighter base and commandant of the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE), Bangalore.
