AIMIM will support YS Jagan in Andhra: Asaduddin Owaisi

HYDERABAD: Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party expressed support for the YSR Congress Party (YRSCP) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a rally here on Tuesday, Owaisi urged the public not to skip voting because of Ramzan.

“The AIMIM has decided that in Andhra Pradesh which has 25 Lok Sabha seats, it will support Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. I request you all to please come and vote for YSR Congress Party candidates and also for AIMIM candidates who will be contesting from Telangana.”

“I would request people not to relate Ramzan with elections for whatever reasons you have. One must understand that Ramzan will start in India around May 5 depending on Moon sighting. In the country, the election process has to be completed by June 3. Hence, elections have to be there during Ramzan. It is not possible to culminate elections by May 5,” Owaisi noted.

“Each year, the Election Commission says that the polling percentage of Muslims are decreasing. I request you all to come out in the morning during the month of Ramzan and exercise your voting rights,” he added.

During the address, Owaisi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making “fake tall claims” during his stint at the Centre.

“Prime Minister Modi has a scientific thought process. One day, he told public that he once witnessed that so much gas being generated from a sewer. He then decided to utilise the gas for making tea. I want to know where he saw so much gas. I also want to utilise the same, not for making tea but for running auto-rickshaws,” he said.

Owaisi also criticised the Prime Minister for remaining silent on the situation prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Modi ji never speaks about the alliance BJP broke with PDP. From the past so many months, Governor’s rule has been imposed in the state. Indirectly, they (Centre) are in power in Jammu and Kashmir via the Governor. Earlier, Election Commission said that assembly elections cannot be held in Jammu and Kashmir due to law and order problem in the state. But, on the other hand, in Anantnag district, the parliament elections will be done in three phases for just one seat,” the AIMIM chief added.

“I pray to God that non-Congress and non-BJP parties should come to power in this general elections,” Owaisi added.
Seven-phased elections in the country are slated to begin on April 11 and culminate on May 19, while counting of votes will take place on May 23.

According to the EC, Anantnag will go to polls on April 23 and Kulgam on April 29, while Shopian and Pulwama will vote on May 6.

The four districts of South Kashmir – Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian – fall within Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency.
