Hyderabad: President of TS Congress Committee, Capt. Uttam Kumar Reddy declared that this time, Congress will float strong candidates in Old City of Hyderabad for TS Assembly election.
President of AICC, Mr. Rahul Gandhi will start election campaign in Telangana by addressing Sadbhavna Memorial Committee’s gathering to be held at 6 p.m. at the foothold of Charminar on 20th October.
It may be mentioned that Mr. Rajiv Gandhi had started Sadbhavna Yatra on 20th October 1990 from Charminar for maintaining communal harmony. Every year, this day is celebrated as National Integration Day.
It may be noted that last time, it was announced that a public meeting would be held at Khilwat Maidan in Old City but at the eleventh hour, Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s program was cancelled. At that time, Capt. Reddy has promised that whenever Mr. Rahul Gandhi visits Hyderabad, a meeting would be held in Old City.
Capt. Reddy got a survey conducted which revealed that elected representatives of MIM did not pay attention to resolve the grievances of the people in Old City. The survey also revealed that in seven Assembly constituencies of Old City, the polling rate was 47-60 % in the last election which means that 48% voters did not poll their votes. It also reveals their indifference. It was indicated that MIM got only 30% votes in each Assembly constituency. The survey clearly indicated that the popularity of MIM has been decreasing day-by-day.
In 2016, Congress campaigned against MIM in Old City for the first time during GHMC elections in which, although, MIM was successful in 33 municipal wards but it got 100226 less votes than it had polled in 2014. Congress party has increased its performance in Malakpet, Charminar and Bahadurpura areas.
In the last GHMC elections, MIM got only 19% votes whereas 81% votes got divided among other parties.
As MIM is supporting TRS this time, Congress has decided to float strong candidates in Old City.
Authentic sources revealed that Telangana Congress Pradesh Committee has planned to organize rigorous election campaign in Old City after the visit of Mr. Rahul Gandhi. A special strategy is also being formulated to counter the use of unparliamentarily language by MIM speakers.
It may be mentioned that in the General Elections held in 2009, TDP candidates lost Charminar and Malakpet Assembly seats with a narrow margin. At that time, the non-Muslim candidates of Congress and BJP were contesting the elections.
