AIDS patients to get passes

New Delhi, July 24: The Centre is considering a proposal to issue Antodya cards and disability railway passes to HIV/ AIDS patients in the country.

Solicitor general Gopal Subramanium submitted before the Supreme Court on Thursday that the matter would be discussed at an inter-ministerial meeting soon.

Seeking adjournment of a PIL filed by NGOs working for the cause of AIDS patients, Subramanium said the government would take further steps after the discussions.

He said he needed time to file a statement to this effect before the apex court.

A bench headed by Chief Justice K. G. Balakrishnan adjourned the matter by three weeks.

Senior counsel Colin Gonsalves, appearing for an NGO, had said that the National AIDS Control Organisation had agreed to the proposal to issue Antodya cards and disability passes to such patients.
