AICTE announces new rules of admission, affiliation for Engineering Colleges

Hyderabad: All Indian Council for Technical Education has issued new rules of admission for students in Engineering Colleges in the country and also the guidelines for cancellation of affiliation of Engineering Colleges.

The new rules are applicable with effect from the academic year 2018-19. According to the Supreme Court orders, all the universities have to get approval from AICTE. Every new educational institution has to pay the processing fee of Re. 1 lakh.

The area of the campus for setting up an Engineering College has also been reduced. In urban areas, it has been reduced from 2.5 acres to 1.5 acres and in rural areas, it has been reduced from 7.5 acres to 4 acres.

At present, for Engineering and Hotel Management courses, as per the UGC norms, one faculty member has to be appointed for a batch of 20 students whereas for PG courses, instead of 1:10, the faculty members have to be appointed at 1:5. For MBA and MCA, instead of 1:15, faculty members could be appointed at the rate of 1:20. For all the diploma courses, earlier for 20 students, one faculty member used to be appointed but now, for 25 students, one faculty member should be appointed.

For the first year students of Engineering Courses, Induction training has made compulsory. In each Engineering College, internet facility has to be provided.
