Erode (TN), March 30: A local AIADMK functionary allegedly set himself afire today as he was upset over party’s performance in Pennagaram assembly bye-election, police said.
50-year-old Thangavel suffered severe burns after he poured petrol over his body and set himself ablaze in front of his house.
He was admitted to the Government hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
DMK’s P N P Inbasekaran won by a margin of over 36,000 votes against his nearest PMK rival G K M Tamil Kumaran in the March 27 bye-election. AIADMK’s Anbazhagan came third in the result announced today.
