Ahmedabad cops seek Viquaruddin’s pistols

Hyyderabad, November 16: Ahmedabad police today sought permission from the local magistrate to take possession of the two pistols seized from terror suspect Viquaruddin Ahmed.

The magistrate directed the police to hand over them to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch. The Ahmedabad police came to Hyderabad with an order from the court there directing the Nampally criminal court to hand over the pistols to them.

The Ahmedabad police said in the petition that Viquaruddin and an accomplice had used the 7.65 mm automatic pistols, made in the USA and England, allegedly to kill a constable, Vinay Sinh, of the Ahmedabad police. “The said pistols were used by the accused in the offence which was registered in Mani Nagar police station (Ahmedabad),” the petition said.

Vinay Sinh was murdered when he foiled a bank robbery by Viquaruddin in Mani Nagar, Ahmedabad in 2007. The Ahmedabad police registered cases against Viquaruddin and Saeed Ahmed Jali alias Suleman under 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and Arms Act.

Till recently, Viquaruddin was in the custody of Ahmedabad police. He was today produced in the Nampally court by the officials of Octopus.

Bail denied to accused in Mecca masjid blast case

The XIV additional chief metropolitan magistrate today rejected the bail petition moved by Lokesh Sharma and Devender Gupta, the accused in the 2007 Mecca masjid blast.

The magistrate permitted the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is investigating the case, to take additional 90 days to file the chargesheet. On Friday, the CBI had pressed for granting additional time since the conspiracy is spread across several states. “This is a case of murder in a bomb blast at Mecca masjid and religious feelings are involved in the case,” the magistrate observed.

Hence, additional time was granted to the CBI to probe the matter further and the petitioners were declared not entitled for bail. The magistrate also conceded the request of the CBI and invoked Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

However, the issue about clubbing of two cases – blast in Mecca masjid and the unexploded bomb recovered at the masjid – is pending before the court.
