AHMEDABAD: In a sheer case of medical negligence, parents of a 5-month-old baby alleged that a nurse had chopped off thumb of the child. The incident took place at Sheth Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital in Ahmedabad.
Hospital authorities claimed that the child was suffering with pneumonia, when the nurse was removing bandage on the day of her discharged, cut the baby’s thumb by mistake along with it.
According to the hospital’s Resident Medical Officer Dr Jitendra Parmar, “The tip of the thumb was injured and it was immediately stitched by the plastic surgeon.
A committee has been formed to investigate the matter and action will be taken accordingly.” Parents went to police and registered an FIR against the nurse and the hospital.
Dr Jitendra Parmar, RMO said, “She was diagnosed with pneumonia. When the nurse was removing the bandage on her thumb then by mistake a part of her thumb was injured. It was immediately stitched by the plastic surgeon. A committee has been formed to investigate the matter and action will be taken accordingly.”
