Tehran, September 25: Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called on US leaders to consider major policy changes in their regional and international affairs.
The Iranian president also emphasized that the current economic and political crises are the consequences of the policies adopted and enforced by capitalist countries led by the US.
President Ahmadinejad made the remarks in a meeting with a number of US scholars on the sidelines of the 66th annual session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday, IRNA reported.
Iran’s chief executive also noted that all countries seek sustainable security, progress and prosperity, which can only be achieved through global cooperation.
He added that the current international security, political, and economic mechanisms — such as the UN Security Council, International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank — do not work anymore, adding that the world today needs new theories based on respect for all nations, freedom, and justice .
President Ahmadinejad also praised Iran’s economic growth and predicted a good outlook for the country’s economy, stating that the production of many strategic goods has more than doubled in the past six years.
In his address to the UN General Assembly on Thursday, the president lambasted the hegemonic powers for infringing on the rights of other nations, saying that the hegemonic powers “seek their progress, affluence, and esteem through the destruction, impoverishment, and humiliation of others.”
President Ahmadinejad also restated his call for implementation of fundamental reforms in the structure of the United Nations.
