Ahmadinejad: Iran-Azerbaijan ties firm

Tehran, March 08: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has described Iran’s relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan as brotherly, saying the close ties will remain firm.

Speaking at meeting with visiting Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Tehran on Monday, Ahmadinejad referred to capacities to bolster the status of Tehran-Baku cooperation and said, “Systematic planning and expertise could be applied to exploit the full potentials of the two countries for the benefit of the two nations,” the official website of the Iranian president’s office reported.

The Iranian chief executive underscored the significance of communications between the two Caspian Sea nations.

“Iran and Azerbaijan need to boost the interchange between their people alongside the expansion of economic and trade exchanges,” he said.

The Azerbaijani minister, for his part, highlighted Tehran’s position in Baku’s foreign policy priorities and said, “As two Muslim neighbors, Iran and Azerbaijan need to have closer ties and improved collaborations.”

Mammadyarov also stressed the need for the two neighbors to enhance their energy ties.

Also on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi called for the expansion of all-out ties between Tehran and Baku and stated that a cohesive transportation system plays a key role in boosting the bilateral ties.
