Ahmadinejad deplores linking nukes to nuclear tech.

Tehran, December 19: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Friday that linking nuclear technology to nuclear bombs is solely carried out by certain states that wish to dominate the world.

Speaking in a press conference on the sideline of the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen, President Ahmadinejad said “if we consider nuclear technology as equal to nuclear bombs, we will be depriving human beings of its [nuclear technology] benefits.”

The Iranian official said the move “betrays human beings”, adding that only “certain governments that seek to have a hold on all [global] resources portray nuclear technology as a nuclear bomb.”

The Iranian president went on to take a swipe at countries that tie the two concepts together, saying these are states which both “own a nuclear bomb and use nuclear energy.”

He went further to address concerns regarding the issue of nuclear non-proliferation, pledging Iran’s unwavering support for “the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.”

“Today, those countries that own nuclear bombs are responsible for its non-proliferation and that is the reason behind their failure as someone who owns a bomb cannot prevent its proliferation,” President Ahmadinejad explained.
