Ahmadinejad conveys note to al-Assad

Tehran, March 08: Iranian Vice President Lotfollah Foruzandeh has traveled to Syria to convey President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

During his four-day state visit to the Arab state, Iranian vice president for development management and human resources is scheduled to meet with senior Syrian officials, including Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Ottri and Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, IRNA reported on Monday.

The avenues towards the expansion of bilateral relations will be among the topics of discussion between Forouzandeh and Syrian officials.

Forouzandeh was welcomed by Syria’s Consultant Minister in Red Crescent Affairs Bashar al-Sho’ar and Iran’s Ambassador to Syria Ahmad Mousavi at Damascus International Airport late Monday.

Iran and Syria enjoy strong political ties and seek to further exapnd their cooperation in cultural, trade and economic arenas.

The officials of the two states exchanged more than 400 visits in 2010 with the aim of enhancing bilateral relations in various fields.

Tehran is to host the 13th Session of the Iran-Syria Joint High Committee from March 8 to 10.
