Ahead of UP polls, Advani says no differences in BJP

Ahemadabad, February 01: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani has said there are no differences between party leaders in the running to elections in Uttar Pradesh.

“There are no differences within the party for the election campaign in Uttar Pradesh. It is not much of an issue. Everybody is going (there) as per own convenience. We have many campaigners. And we are optimistic about it,” Advani said.

Voicing concern over the proposed reservation plan for Muslims, Advani said religion-based reservation was against the Constitution and could prove disastrous for the country.

Voting in India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh will be held from February 8 to March 3.

It mat be recallede that Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid had recently promised to raise the quota of minority reservation from 4.5 percent to 9 percent bracketed within the existing 27 percent other backward class slab, if the Congress party was voted to power in Uttar Pradesh.

The Election Commission of India, however, banned the move.
