A day before Telangana CM KCR is scheduled to visit Jamia Nizamia, the special officer (SO) MJ Akbar is barred from entering into the 150-year-old institution by senior management.
“We have told the SO not to enter the institution because the monthly amount of Rs 35,000 in addition to an annual Rs 2 lakh given to this institution as grant in aid was stopped. So far all our letters asking for an explanation with regard to why this has happened have gone in vain,” said a university member.
“Stopping funds without providing a reason is highly irregular and not tolerable. On what grounds has the special officer taken this decision,” he questioned.
The CM is expected to address a gathering at the Jamia on Friday, one of the most important Islamic universities in South India.
Keeping in view the CM’s impending visit and to save itself embarrassment, the APSWB went into an overdrive on Thursday. The secretary of minorities welfare department, Syed Omar Jaleel had issued instructions to probe into the matter and release funds.
“It was not the SO but the APSWB staff which had taken the decision to halt funds,” said Jaleel.
