“Agyaat” was shot in middle of Sri Lankan war

Mumbai, July 23: Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has revealed that he shot his upcoming film “Agyaat” in Sri Lankan forests at a time when the war against LTTE was on.

The film, which revolves around a group of people stuck in a jungle while they struggle to survive an unknown entity, is slated to release on July 24.It was shot in Sigria jungles of central Sri Lanka.

“We shot when the war against LTTE was on in Northern part of the country. My unit was naturally scared. But, I told them that if we had to die, it can happen while we are dining at the Taj hotel in Mumbai as well,” the filmmaker told.

The filmmker has denied that the movie is another horror from RGV factory, saying that it is an adventure thriller on the lines of Hollywood films like “Alien”.

“I feel that horror movies are supernatural thrillers dealing with ghosts, while ‘Agyaat’ is of the creature genre.

The antagonist can be a creature, animal or human being who is out to make life miserable for a group lost in the jungles,” the filmmaker said.

He said such genre was tried in Hollywood with films like “Alien” and others many years ago.

Speaking about casting a host of newcomers in “Agyaat”, he said the adventure genre required clarity of characters involved and hence new faces fit in easily.
