Hundreds of lawyers and activists today demonstrated near Taj Mahal to press their demand for a high court bench in the city. The protesters carried a rally from Commissioner’s Court to Shah Jahan Gardens demanding implementation of recommendations made by Jaswant Singh Commission, suggesting setting up of a high court bench in Agra. Local units of Congress, BSP, BJP and SP also issued statements in support of the lawyers’ demand with some members even attending the meeting of protestors outside Shah Jahan Gardens. Some lawyers even tried to enter the Taj Mahal complex but were prevented from doing so by the police. SSP SC Bajpai, however, told PTI that no arrests were made. The steering committee of the demonstrators have now announced a march to the Parliament House in New Delhi on December 19. PTI
