Agni-IV tested in Odisha

The nuclear-capable Agni-IV missile was tested from a defence base in Odisha Wednesday, official sources said.

The 4,000-km-range surface-to-surface missile was tested from a launch pad at Wheeler Island near Dhamra in Bhadrak district, which is 112 km from here, official sources said.

This was the third trial of Agni-IV. The two-stage solid fuel propelled missile is lighter than Agni-III because of the composite rocket motor casings.

The missile is designed to carry a payload of 1,000 kg. Its re-entry vehicle is equipped with heat shield to enable the payload withstand searing temperatures of more than 3,000 degrees Celsius.
