Ghaziabad, September 05: A protest turned violent on the Ghaziabad highway number 24 when police lathicharged the agitating people.
The protest was being held against a government eviction notice for an unauthorised colony.
The violence erupted between the police and mob, when the crowd was demonstrating against the notice.
The crowd also obstructed the busy highway and set ablaze a bus in the Vijay Nagar area of Ghaziabad.
It is alleged that the protestors allegedly started pelting stones when police tried to clear the highway. Police then used lathicharge and also fire in the air.
It is learnt that two days earlier, notices were issued to evict the government land. The notice also said that failing the eviction their illegal construction was to be demolished.
The mob set 12 vehicles on fire including two trucks, three buses and other small vehicles.
Following the incident, the Tijarti cut-Hindon bridge has been closed and PAC has been deployed in the area.
