Age old OGH inpatient ward may be shifted to Niloufer, Fever Hospitals and Petlaburz

The government has decided to dismantle the inpatient ward building on the premises of Osmania General Hospital and build two high-rise buildings.

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday directed authorities to vacate the building within one week. He said he would hold a meeting with GHMC officials to discuss alternative accommodation for shifting the hospital within a week.

The OGH doctors and nurses, besides a few staff members, visited this hospital on Friday. Another team of doctors and nurses visited King Koti District Hospital, Malakpet Area Hospital, Nampally Area Hospital and Vanasthalipuram Area hospital.

The doctors expressed their preference for Niloufer hospital which has eight operation theatres and 450 beds and government maternity hospital Petlaburz which has 400 beds on the second floor.“We have opted for these hospitals because these hospitals are in the radius of eight kilometres as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India.” he said.

According to president, Telangana Governments Doctors Association Osmania Joint Action Committee Chairman, said the causality and outpatient departments would remain on the premises of the OGH.

KCR clarified that the hospital would be reconstructed at the same spot. However, the building plan of the new construction would be finalized only after taking inputs from doctors and the hospital administration.

It may be noted that early this month, panic-stricken doctors protested after a large chunk of false ceiling collapsed in the chamber housing the surgery department head.
