Hyderabad: Afzal Begum, the Congress Corporator of Dharmabad Municipality of Mudhool in Adilabad was elected Chairperson. It is for the first time that a Muslims candidate has been elected to the prestigious position of Chairperson of Municipality. She defeated her opponent by more than 500 votes.
She is a noted social worker. The election of chairperson was direct. In the Dharmabad Municipality, Congress got only two seats whereas Rashtravadi Congress got 10 seats, BJP four seats and three seats for independents.
She promised that Dharmabad would be developed.
