After the lull in the storm, Cyclone Hudhud is expected to regain its intensity in Andhra Pradesh at around 3 pm on Sunday.
“The first landfall to hit the coast was at 10.20 am, and thereafter there has been a lull. But we expect the storm to resume around 3 pm. After that our operations will begin,” National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) Director General O.P. Singh told ANI.
“In certain areas of Odisha also there is high probability of heavy rainfall due to which flooding can take place,” he added.
Speaking of the activities that the NDRF will do to contain the damage by the cyclone, Singh said, “We have sent 42 teams to Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, with the maximum concentration around Vishakhapatnam, where the maximum effect of the cyclone is supposed to take place. Our operations will mainly be clearing roads and evacuating the trapped people.”
A number of buildings were damaged as Cyclone Hudhud made landfall in the city with smashing 180 kmph winds recorded.
Over four lakh people have been reportedly evacuated so far from the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. (ANI)
