After DTC, Delhi Metro hikes fares

New Delhi, Nov 11: Increasing burden on the middle class commuters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday announced a hike in its fares.

According to reports, DMRC had decided to increase the base fare (0-2km) from Rs 6 to Rs 8 and the maximum fare (over 39km) from Rs 22 to Rs 30. The rest of the slabs will also increase accordingly.

The increased fares will come into effect from November 13 of this month.

The average increase in fare for all slabs is around 36%, DMRC officials have confirmed.

They have also informed that the existing 10% discount on smart card will continue.

This is the third time that DMRC has revised fares. The first one was in March 2004 while the second revision was in December 2005.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had earlier set up a fare fixation committee in August this year for revision of fares.

The DMRC’s hike in fares comes after the State Government increased bus fares by up to 150% in some slabs.

The metro services started in the city in 2002.
