New Delhi: As the political debate over the brutal Bulandshahr gangrape rages on, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet minister Azam Khan, who drew flak for his unwarranted remark on the incident, today suggested that Sharia (Islamic) law should be implemented for rape cases in India.
Under Sharia law, a law generally enforced by the Islamic states(Islamic Law), punishment imposed by the court on the rapist may range from flogging to execution.
The controversial minister claimed that if the Sharia law is implemented, then there will be an overall drop in crimes against women.
He also urged for ending the politics being played on the issue and said that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has taken prompt action against the culprits.
The UP minister had earlier called the incident a conspiracy by the Opposition party.
Criticising Azam Khan for his insensitive remarks, UP BJP spokesperson IP Singh said the minister would feel the pain of Bulandhsahr victims if his wife and daughter were gangraped
