After Chand-Fiza reunion, the ruckus

Chandigarh, June 16: ‘‘My mother asked me to forgive him, but I am yet to take a decision.’’ These were the words of Fiza on Monday, keeping the suspense over her love story after the dramatic return of husband Chand Mohammed.

On his part, Chand brushed aside allegations that he was kidnapped by Fiza. ‘‘It is my decision to stay with her and I am trying to seek her forgiveness,’’ he told reporters.

There was a mad scramble outside Fiza’s home on Sunday night between a group of people who police suspect are supporters of Chand and cops. One person was shot in his ankle, allegedly in police firing.

Police arrested three people and were looking for others who created trouble. The three accused were sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a local court.

Police said Chand called his supporters after members of an unidentified group assembled outside Fiza’s residence. Cops were called in as tension escalated.

A couple of cops panicked when the unruly mob tried to break into the premises. Police said there was a false complaint about Chand’s kidnapping and an assistant sub-inspector who went to inquire was thrashed by goons near Fiza’s home.

Fiza claimed that she was going to Malaysia by June-end to participate in a television reality show and that Chand wanted her to skip the trip so as to stay back with him.

‘In absence of triple talaq, couple can live together’

With former Haryana deputy chief minister Chand Mohammad once again courting his estranged wife Fiza, Islamic clerics are unlikely to come in the way of their reunion.

Leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband said Chander Mohan alias Chand Mohammad, who on Sunday returned to Fiza and apologised for “past mistakes” , can live with her if the word ‘talaq’ has not been uttered thrice.

“In case Chand has not uttered word ‘Talaq’ thrice, he can still live with Fiza as her husband,” said Mufti Ahsan Kasmi, deputy incharge of seminary’s fatwa department.
