Afridi, Razzaq to retire from Tests

Lahore, May 21: Senior all-rounders Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq are planning to announce their retirement from Test cricket next week in a bid to focus on next year’s World Cup.

The duo have not played Test cricket for Pakistan since 2006 and they are now convinced that it’s time to retire from the longest format of the game.

”There is so much cricket this year and it would be best for me if I keep my focus on one-day cricket,” Afridi told ‘The News’. ”The World Cup is just about nine months away and I want to be in top form for the event.” However, the Twenty20 skipper made it clear that he is yet to take a final decision on it. ”I’m still weighing my options,” he said.

Both Afridi and Razzaq are expected to announce their decision after meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt here next week.
