Afghanistan: Landmine blast kills 11 of a family

Kabul: A roadside landmine on Friday claimed 11 lives, including five women and five children, of a family in Afghanistan.

“The incident occurred in the Mohammad Agha district of the Logar province, where a passenger car hit the landmine that led to the death of all five women, an elderly man and five children travelling in it,” Anadolu Agency quoted district chief Mohammad Naseer, as saying.

Even though the Taliban have not claimed responsibility for the incident, Logar Governor spokesperson Salim Saleh said it was “the work of the militant to lay such landmines in a bid to target the government forces, but often civilians find themselves in the middle of the conflict.”
