Afghanistan: The UK is planning to station its 440 non-combat troops in Afghanistan which will be announced by the PM at the Brussels Nato summit, BBC reported.
Half of the allocated UK’s troops for Afghanistan will be deployed from the Welsh Guards in August while the remaining will be sent over in February next year totaling it to 1,090 UK troops in Afghanistan after its commitment to Nato’s mission.
These troops sent over by UK will help “bring the stability and security that the Afghan people deserve,” said PM Theresa May.
Nato already had more than 130,000 troops from 50 nations in stationed in Afghanistan while the UK alone has 9,500 personnel and 137 bases in Helmand province.
Nato personnel stood at 16,000 from nearly 39 countries operating in Kabul and focusing on training and assisting the army and Police.
Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson said: “Whenever the call comes, the UK is always one of the first to step up and support our friends and allies across the globe”.
