Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K.Advani on Friday listed three main reasons for Congress-led UPA’s defeat in the 2014 general elections.
“This time the mandate is against mis-governance, corruption and dynastic rule. Never in the history (of India) has any government worked so hard to lose,” Advani told reporters.
Advani, however, appeared reluctant to give wholesome and complete praise or credit to the party’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, for what is going to be a landslide victory for the BJP-led NDA.
He seemed to suggest that there was a need for analysing the impact of the RSS in ensuring Modi’s win in the elections.
“People have blessed Modi. I believe there should be a detailed analysis as to why such a mandate has been given this time. We are winning in areas where we have never won before. Credit goes to Narendra Modi, RSS,” Advani said.
Latest results aired on television channels show the opposition National Democratic Alliance leading in 327 seats, UPA leading in 68 seats and others leading in 146. The leads are available for all 543 seats that are up for grabs
Counting of votes to elect representatives to the 16th Lok Sabha and four State Assemblies-Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim-began at 8 a.m. this morning amid tight security.
The exit polls have projected that the BJP and its allies would touch the half-way mark in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Most polls show the incumbent UPA regime getting between 101 and 148 seats. (ANI)
