Advani: PM making DMK scapegoat in corruption

Chennai, June 06: Targeting Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in particular, senior BJP leader LK Advani, addressing the media here on Sunday, said that the Congress was making the DMK a scapegoat in corruption.

Criticising the Government’s “inability” to reign in corruption, Advani at one point mentions that “a former Minister now in jail” (A Raja) had said that he had done everything with Prime Minister’s knowledge and one could not make the DMK “scapegoat” for everything.

He said that the DMK was neither responsible for what happened at the Ramlila Grounds, nor with what happened with CWC.

But when asked if he was absolving the DMK of all charges of corruption, Advani clarified that he used the term “scapegoat” only in the context of Singh talking of “compulsions of coalition politics” by way explaining his inaction against corruption.

Asked to comment on the DMK president M Karunanidhi’s recent comment that “bad friendship ends in trouble”, Advani quipped that Karunanidhi was talking out of “personal experience”.

Advani congratulated Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on her party’s victory once again and said that if he did not have to rush back to Delhi, he would have met her to congratulate her in person. Saying that her victory was of national significance, Advani added: “I had indicated that had it not been for her victory, it would have been said corruption was not a matter to voters.”
