New Delhi, June 24: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani on Tuesday denied statements appearing in a section of the press that he was set to become the party president to revive the sagging fortunes of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Mr. Advani and his family members arrived at the junior college helipad here on a five-day private visit. He and family members would be staying at the Orange County resorts near Siddapur.
In a chat with presspersons after arrival, he said his party colleagues were capable of fulfilling the roles assigned to them. There was no chance of him leading the party as president.
Mr. Advani agreed with a questioner that his party had accepted the Lok Sabha poll defeat ‘with all humility.’ The mandate given by the people to the UPA was for stability, he said to another question. The other reason was for bipolarity at the national level, he added.
The BJP and the Congress were the only political parties that had achieved three digit marks in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
