New Delhi : Pakistani singer Adnan Sami was on Friday granted Indian citizenship by naturalisation by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs (MoS, Home) Kiren Rijiju at the Home Ministry here.
While speaking to media Sami said he has received a tremendous amount of love from the people of India in the last 16 years of his stay in the country.
“I have been trying for many years to get the citizenship, but it was meant to happen now. I have lived in this country for 16 years and the amount of love I have received from the people of India through my music has brought me here,” Sami told the media here.
Sami, who was staying for more than a decade in India, had been trying to get the Indian citizenship since long.
The Union Home Ministry was mulling over granting him a citizenship by naturalization in view of his distinguished contribution to Indian music.
