Hyderabad, September 14: Govt employees in Telangana Region started strike on the appeal made by Telangana Joint Action Committee. On the first day of strike work in Hyderabad city and in the districts was paralysed. In addition to Govt. employees, teachers, other workers of un-organised sector also participated in strike. Secretariat was badly affected by strike. Employees registered their protest by staging dharna in front of secretariat and collectorate.
Employees of Singareni collieries in the four districts of Telangana stopped the production of coal. Telugu Desham M.L.A’s were arrested near secretariat. Govt’s threat to apply G.O.177 to take action against the agitating employees had no effect. Advocates boycotted the court proceedings. To protect Seema Andhra employed heary police force was deployed. Many of such employees remained absent. Prof Kodandaram said that the strike was successful. He informed that employees in all the 10 districts of Telangana are participating in strike.
He said that the battle for Telangana state has now been started in the real sense. The Govt. should at least come into consciousness and honouring the sentiments of Telangana people, the central and the state Govt. should present the Telangana Bill in the parliament. Prof. Kodandaram told that despite agitation, if the Govt sticks to its previous stand, the protest would be intensified.
