Administration must be held responsible for communal riots, mob lynching as well: Shahi Imam

New Delhi: Welcoming centre’s action and direction to prevent toppling of statues, Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari said that such moves must also be taken when innocents are killed in mob lynching and people are killed in communal riots.

It must be noted that after a spate of incidents targeting statues in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke the silence and said that from now onwards if statues are vandalized anywhere, DM and SP will be held responsible. Not only this but an advisory was also sent to all states, directing them to take steps to prevent toppling of statues and book persons indulging in such acts under relevant provisions of law.

On this move, Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari said communal riots have been occurring in the country for the past 70 years and demands have been made to the government to form a concrete law to stop them, but no practical measure has been made, save rhetoric.

He said a good decision has been taken to stop vandalisation of statues, which was disrupting peace, but more than the statues human lives need protection on a priority basis.

If the state administration is made accountable for communal riots and mob lynching, peace would prevail in the country, he claimed.
