Indian golfer Aditi Ashok will make a bid to qualify for her first Major in a professional career that started only this year.
The 18-year-old Bengaluru girl will be among the 70-plus golfers who will attempt to earn a berth into the US Women’s Open in July. The 2016 US Women’s Open Championship will be held at CordeValle in San Martin, California from July 7-10.
The 36-hole sectional qualifying in Buckinghamshire will feature 73 players who will vie for the places in the Major.
Aditi, who has made the cut in her last two starts on the Ladies European Tour, will play her first 18 holes with Rebecca Hudson and Klara Spilkova.
Some of the prominent names in the field include Flortentyna Parker, Carly Booth, Becky Brewerton, Holly Aitchison, Valentine Derrey and Vikki Laing.
For the third consecutive year, US Women’s Open sectional qualifying will be conducted in England, Japan, China and the Republic of Korea.
Two courses Buckinghamshire Golf Club in Buckinghamshire, England, and Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, Korea return as host sites and the Buckinghamshire will host on May 25. Last year there were 1873 starters in a total of 25 qualifiers.
Holly Aitchison, Maria Balikoeva, Heather MacRae, Lauren Taylor and Kylie Walker were the five players from a field of 75 who earned their place in the 2015 US Women’s Open Championship at Lancaster Country Club after the second European Sectional Qualifier was played at Buckinghamshire Golf Club.
Considered the world’s premier women’s golf championship the US Women’s Open was first conducted in 1946.
