A CHENNAI- BASED actress, who will soon be seen in a John Abraham production titled Madras Café was arrested from a South Delhi farmhouse on Tuesday. Leena Maria Paul ( 25) was wanted by the Chennai Police for her involvement in a ` 19 crore cheating case there.
Maria Paul and her live- in partner Chandrashekhar had duped Canara Bank in Chennai to the tune of ` 19 crore this year.
She is said to be fond of luxury cars and had bought nine of them including Rolls Royce with the money.
Maria Paul, who has worked in national award winner Mohanlal’s Red Chillies is allegedly involved in a case registered under Sections 420 ( cheating), 120B ( criminal conspiracy) and 406 ( breach of trust) along with her friend Chandrashekhar. Other than this case, there are more than six cases under different sections registered against the actress in Chennai.
In Delhi, she was staying along with Chandrashekhar in Khari Farms in Fatehpur Beri for the last one month. The couple was paying ` 4 lakh per month as rent for the farmhouse. The duo had applied for verification with the local police and the process was on. The two were staying in Delhi reportedly to evade arrest by Chennai Police.
The arrest was a joint operation by Chennai Police Crime Branch and South Delhi Anti Auto Theft Squad ( AATS).
“ Chennai Police had shared information with us about Maria Paul and her male friend Chandrashekhar hiding in Delhi. Both were wanted in a ` 19 crore cheating case in Chennai. After knowing about her involvement in the crime, we kept a close watch on the actress and traced her movement around Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj,” DCP south B. S. Jaiswal said.
“ We continued the surveillance and found out that the actress has been staying with her male friend in a South Delhi farmhouse.
A raid was conducted on the farmhouse following this and the actress and her friend along with her six personal security officers ( PSOs) were arrested. Nine expensive cars and 81 costly wristwatches have also been recovered,” Jaiswal added.
The six PSOs include three ex- servicemen who were carrying weapons with licences from Haryana and Jammu.
Though the licences had an all- India permit, the Delhi Police was not informed about the weapons, following which, a case under Arms Act has also been registered in Fatehpur Beri police station.
The actress is a Bachelor of Dental Science graduate who completed her education from Dubai. Her family is settled in Dubai and her father is an engineer.
