Hyderabad, April 15: Actor Rami Reddy, who shot to fame with his dialogue ‘Spot pedata’ from the movie ‘Ankusam’, passed away here today while undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment. He was 52.
Reddy, who was undergoing treatment for the past couple of weeks at KIMS hospital, died today. He is survived by two daughters and a son.
Hailing from Chittoor district, Rami Reddy started his career as a journalist in an Urdu daily before entering the films. He got his first break in the Rajasekhar-starrer ‘Ankusam’’ produced by Kodi Ramakrishna, which was a huge hit in 1990 and Rami Reddy’s role was much appreciated.
In a career spanning 20 years, he acted in 250 films in various languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bhojpuri and Hindi.

Ramulamma’, ‘Gayam’, ‘Ammoru’, ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari’ and ‘Kshana Kshanam’ made him a popular actor. Comedian Brahmanandam termed the sudden demise of Rami Reddy as a big loss to the film industry. “He (Rami Reddy) was a great actor,” Brahmanandam said. Actor Kota Srinivasa Rao also said that the Telugu film industry suffered a great loss with his death. The Movie Artist Association (MAA) condoled the death of Rami Reddy.
‘’He was not only an actor but a benevolent person. He helped many people in the film industry,’’ said actor- writer Tanikella Bharani recalling his association with Rami Reddy.
