Actor-politicians Raj Babbar and Chiranjeevi on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the actor Salman Khan, who has been found guilty in the 2002 hit-and-run case and hoped that he would be granted bail.
“There is also sympathy for the one who died in this incident. These five years will be tough for Salman and his family. He is a good human being. In this time of sorrow, may God give him strength. Those who are benefiting from his charitable work, may their prayers be with him,” Raj Babbar told the media.
“Nobody is beyond law, so nobody can escape it if they are really guilty. I’m feeling very bad that Salman has been convicted. I think he still has scope to appeal in the higher courts. I think he will definitely given some consideration. He still has a chance to get bail and meanwhile he can do justice to his films,” said Chiranjeevi , the South Indian superstar and politician.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Urban Development and former singer Babul Supriyo said the court may take into consideration Salman Khan’s philanthropic activities.
“I have sung so many songs for him and I have known him for so many years. It is definitely heart wrenching to know that he is convicted. But, law has to take its own course,” Supriyo said.
“There have been grounds in the past where the judges have given reduced sentences and granted parole, keeping the good conduct of a person in mind. So, here if the court decides that the sentence could be reduced, then it should not be looked at by the public as Salman getting special treatment because he is ‘The Salman Khan’. If the judge decides so, it is because of the documented cases of Salman Khan and his foundation ‘Being Human’ and helping children in getting heart surgeries and lot of documented things that he had done for humanity,” he added.
Earlier today, a Mumbai session’s court on Wednesday found Salman Khan guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced him to five years imprisonment in connection with the 2002 hit-and-run case, where he allegedly ran over a homeless person and injured four others who were sleeping on the pavement.
The actor has been granted interim bail for two days by the Bombay High Court. (ANI)
