Hyderabad: Lubna Sarwath, an activist, has filed her nomination for Telangana State Waqf Board. It must be noted an amendment to the Waqf Act of 1995 mandates that the board of 10 must have two women. Ms. Sarwath assured that she would make sure that Muslim community in general and women and weaker sections in particular, benefits directly from waqf properties, if she gets successfully nominated.
Sarwath received doctorate in Islamic Economics and Institutional Political Economy from Trisakti University in Indonesia. She contested on Aam Aadmi Party ticket from Hyderabad constituency against Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi during 2014 parliamentary elections.
Competent Authority of Telangana Waqf Board Mr. Omer Jaleel told that government will take final call on her nomination as she cannot file her nomination under the elected category.
