Action will be taken against armed rallies: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: Strongly condemning the armed rallies on the occasion of Ram Navami, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said giving arms in the hands of children in the Ram Navami procession is against Bengal culture. She directed police administration to take strict action against those who took out armed rally. She said the use of religion for political gain is condemnable. She directed the police to not spare anyone who carried swords and other weapons during such processions in the state on Sunday.

It must be noted that West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh and state Mahila Morcha chief Locket Chatterjee have been booked for carrying arms during Ram Navami rallies.

Mamata said such rallies will not be allowed in the name of Ram… No one will be allowed to organise processions in the area of another community and murder a person, she said. She asked the police administration to strongly deal with this. Action will be taken against such people under Arms Act, she warned.

It must be noted that one person was killed and five police personnel injured on Sunday in clashes between two groups during a Ram Navami procession in Purulia.

Mamata Banerjee asserted, ‘people were scared when they saw some rallies yesterday. This is not the culture of Bengal. I will not tolerate this’.
