An action plan was chalked out by the The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to deal with the monsoon woes.
At a meeting, Mayor B S Satyanarayana and BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana directed zonal and division level officers and engineers to take preventive measures to forestall any mishaps and flooding during the rainy season.
They made a decision to set up 10 control rooms in BBMP during the rainy season, working round the clock.
All the 10 control rooms will have officers with adequate number of ‘Prahari’ squads and equipment to address rain-related emergencies. Better synchronization with officials of BWSSB, Bescom and traffic police was emphasized to check flooding and ensure smooth flow of traffic.
The Forest division has been instructed to identify weak trees and their branches to avoid accidents owing to tree fall during the rainy season.
Likewise, directions were given to identify compound of government buildings walls which was on its last legs.
Officials were ordered to identify low-lying and flood -prone areas to prepare an action plan to prevent flooding.
Instructions were given to remove sludge from storm water drains, side drains and underground drains for smooth flow of rainwater.
