Hyderabad: The Telangana government would take tough measures to check environmental pollution in the state, Forest and Environment Minister Jogu Ramanna said here today.
The minister, who held a meeting with officials, said the state government is taking all measures to see that the situation currently prevailing in Delhi does not arise in Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad.
Noting that an action plan is being prepared to make the state pollution-free, he said steps are being taken to check vehicles that exceeded their stipulated time period.
CNG would be introduced in Hyderabad in phases and the process would begin with the introduction of CNG public transport buses, he said.
The state Road Transport Corporation (RTC) has paid Rs four crore to the Pollution Control Board (PCB) for the purpose.
“The government would step up surveillance on the polluting industries and other organisations. Geo-mapping of polluting industries would be taken up,” he said.
The government is considering collecting minimum fees for giving Environment Clearance, Ramanna said.
“Permissions would be given expeditiously for setting up new industries, but pollution control measures would be taken,” he added.
