Kolkata: Acquitted along with other four in 2007 Mecca Masjid blast case on Monday by NIA court, Swamy Aseemanand, to now campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal’s panchayat elections. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh, an ex-RSS Parcharak, said that he met with Aseemanand who agreed to join the party ‘to spread its base in Bengal’.
“I know him for a long time. I have spoken to him earlier and told him that the situation in Bengal is bad and we need him to work here. He has agreed. Now that he is acquitted, he will work with us in the state. He will speak during the campaign period of panchayat polls. We are yet to work out the details,” Ghosh said, as reported by The Indian Express.

Swami Aseemanand, whose real name is Naba Kumar Sarkar is a native of West Bengal’s Hooghly. BJP leaders believe if he joins the party, its Hindutva ideology in the state will get boosted. He will be soon visiting the state as BJP is planning his travel.
“He has great organisational skills and has worked with the masses for years. After the panchayat polls, we want him to spread the party base in tribal areas of Bengal.” Ghosh was quoted as saying.
Aseemanand, who had worked for RSS backed ‘Vanabasi Kalyan Ashram’, has also spent time among the tribals. Aseemanand, who got the acquittal in Mecca Masjid blast case, now faces trial in the 2007 Samjhauta Express train blast case, where 68 people were killed on the train between New Delhi and Lahore. Of those who got killed, most of them were Pakistanis.
