Acquaint kids with Telugu folk arts: DK Aruna

Hyderabad, January 04: Minister for information and public relations DK Aruna today said every Telugu person had the responsibility to uphold the importance of Sankranthi celebrations that reflected the Telugu culture.

Addressing a gathering at the Sankranthi celebrations organised by Kala Sudha, a Telugu association, at the South Indian Film Chamber auditorium in Chennai, the minister said AP was the birth place for many folk arts. It was the responsibility of all Telugu people to preserve the state’s culture and traditions since the younger generations were being attracted towards the Western culture, she said. There was a need to acquaint children with the state’s folk arts and dances like Tholu Bommalaata, Buda Bukkalaata, Araku and Dhimsa dances. The AP government had already taken steps to promote these arts, she said.

The minister joined with the folk artistes from Araku and performed Dhinsa dance.

World Telugu Federation president Indira Dutt, Kala Sudha president B Srinivas and others were present.
