Achuthanandan rejects charge of ‘politics of vengeance’

Thiruvananthapuam, March 25: Kerala Chief Minister and CPI(M) veteran V S Achuthanandan today rejected Congress leader Oommen Chandy’s charge that he was practicing ‘politics of vengeance’ by trying to implicate rivals in graft cases.

In a statement here, Achuthanandan said he had always fought corruption cases by producing clear-cut evidence. “I have never moved with vengence against any individual or political parties in any of such cases”, Achuthanandan said.

The Chief Minister was reacting to allegations by Chandy that the government’s plea to sanction further probe into the palmolein import graft case, which the UDF regime headed by Chandy had closed in 2005, was politically motivated.

Upon being voted to power in 2006, the LDF government under Achuthanandan had reopened the case. On March 14 this year, a Special Vigilance Court gave sanction for a further probe into the case.
