Hyderabad, July 22: A quarter of agricultural scientists doing research on rice in the country are from the city-based Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University.
Revealing this information in his address to the 42nd annual convocation of the university here today, director-general of Indian Council of Agricultural Research S. Ayyappan said “The university has accquired such a high reputation that scientists from abroad wish to visit it. ” He advocated introduction of `earn while you learn’ programme for the university to attract more admissions. He advised the students of the university to be proud of their alma mater and exhorted them to serve the people, especially of Andhra Pradesh, where 71 percent population is engaged in farming.
Governor ESL Narasimhan spoke on the importance of food security and congratulated the winners of medals and PhD awardees on their distinction.
Cheif board member of the university P Rhagava Reddy, officials, staff members and students were present.
