New Delhi: A man, in his late 40s, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poisonous substance outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here on Friday, police said.
The man, identified as Anup Singh, drank the substance around 10 a.m. outside Kejriwal’s official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines area in north Delhi.
Police said Singh, who lives with his family in west Delhi’s Dabri area, was saved as he was admitted to a nearby hospital on time.
“A case of attempt to suicide has been registered against Anup,” said a police officer.
The officer said Singh was wanted by the police in connection with a rape case registered on Thursday at a police station in Dwarka.
“The initial investigation reveals that the man wanted to meet the Delhi chief minister to inform him that he was being framed in the rape case,” the officer said.
Witnesses said Singh threw some object inside the compound of Kejriwal’s house and tried to enter when the guards opened the gate for few seconds.
“During his failed attempt to get entry to Kejriwal’s house, Anup fell on the ground with froth coming out of his mouth. Our PCR (Police Control Room) unit admitted him to a nearby hospital after receiving the call from the staffs of the CM residence,” the officer said.
