Bareilly: A mob of around 20 persons allegedly attacked a police team in Shergarh area and forcibly freed a person involved in a theft case.
A police team had yesterday detained Sharif Ahmad, accused of buffalo theft in Piparia village and was taking him to police station, when a group attacked them and took Ahmad away, they said.
The mob snatched the lathis of policemen and beat them up.
Later, additional police force rushed to the spot, but the suspects had fled the spot by then.
An FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident, against 19 persons under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.
