Of late a rise in number of kidney patients is witnessed in state particularly in Hyderabad. While the government hospitals have no proper facilities such as dialysis, in corporate a huge sum is collected for dialysis. While the poor undergo dialysis under Arogyasri scheme, middle class families are amongst the worst affected. People aged between 30-40 yrs are more prone to kidney diseases.

30 year old Mohammed Kabir resident is on dialysis since both of his kidneys failed. He is also suffering from TB and Jaundice. Although the dialysis is done free in a private hospital under Arogyasri scheme but Rs. 3000 is spent monthly on purchase of medicine. Kabir, father of a daughter, has become very frail. He is sick for 6 months. Before illness he used to earn Rs. 500 daily in centering work. Now his wife is forced to work as a house maid to meet the expenses. She earns Rs. 1000 monthly but the amount is spent on arranging conveying for her husband to take him to the hospital for dialysis.
