Accord NAAC accreditation to OU: Dattatreya demands centre

Former union minister and BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya urged the central government to consider the application of Osmania University for assessment and accreditation by the NAAC and save higher education in the newly formed Telangana state.

In a letter to union minister for human resources development Smiriti Irani, Dattatreya said the OU was headed by prominent scholars including former UGC chairman la,te Prof G Ram Reddy and it has produced many stalwaqrds who have excelled in various fields in India and abroad. Persons like former prime minister late P V Narasimha Rao former home minister late S B Chavan and Shiva raj patil were alumni of the Osmania University.

He said the university was accredited with “A” grate in February 2008 which expired last year. But, it was shocking to note that the OU has not applied for NAAC accreditation within the stipulated time for unknown reasons and negligence of OU administration. As a result of this mistake, the OU will lose funding by the UGC and other funding agencies to an extent of more than Rs 100 crores.

The BJP leader sought intervention of the human resources development minister to consider the application of OU.
